With autumn turning into winter, our roads are becoming a lot less forgiving. Wet leaves 🍂, muddy country lanes 🚜, standing water 🌧️, frost ❄️ and icy patches can all catch drivers out, especially on rural roads.

The car in this photo left the road and ended up in a ditch, resulting in it being written off. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported, but it's a timely reminder that the conditions are changing and it's worth adjusting our driving accordingly.

🚨 Winter driving tips: 

✅ Slow down, especially on bends and country roads
✅ Leave more space between you and the vehicle in front
✅ Check your tyres, lights and wipers regularly
✅ Be aware of mud, leaves and surface water on rural routes
✅ Give yourself extra time and don't feel pressured to rush

Remember, the speed limit is a limit, not a target. A road that felt perfectly safe at 60mph in July may be a completely different story on a wet, cold October morning.
